Chateau des Milandes

Made famous as the home of the legendary US entertainer Josephine Baker, this Renaissance fairytale castle offers wonderful gardens and an exhibition of the life of Josephine and her 'Enfants du Monde'. With many children's activities you can enter the world of knights and princesses, including daily falconry displays and Musketeer workshop. Open April - mid November and over Christmas.

Chateau de Puymartin

Between Sarlat and Les Eyzies this 13th century castle was destroyed during the 100 Years war and rebuilt in 1450. Haunted by the ghost of the White Lady (Therese de Saint-Clar) who was imprisoned in the north tower by her jealous husband where she died and was entombed within the walls. Her ghost is said to roam the castle and has been seen by various visitors.

Chateau and Hanging Gardens of Marqueyssac

The most visited garden in the Perigord, Marqueyssac is a celebration of boxwood topiary with three main paths over 6km. With an 18th century castle, the gardens offer stunning views of the valley from Beynac to La Roque Gageac. Although one of the most peaceful places in the area, there are plenty of adventure activities for kids. On Thursday evenings in July/August you can wander around the candlelit gardens, meeting musicians and performers as you stroll. Excellent cafe. Year round opening.
