Tour de France

Hot Air Ballooning

Perhaps the most dramatic way to enjoy the area is from the air. In the summer months you will see a number of hot air balloons floating across the blue skies. The closest take-off point is within ten minutes walk of the Gite. Weather permitting, you will float above the river and get the most stunning views of the local castles from the air.

Light Aircraft and Parachuting

For those who enjoy their activities with a little more adrenaline, the local aerodrome at Domme offers aerial tours in ULMs as well as tandem parachuting.

Ariel Adventure Parks

There are several aerial adventure parks nearby, with Airparc Perigord (one of the largest in the area) being located within 3km of the Gite, opposite the Chateau des Milandes. The park offers aerial adventures including zip lines and a rope-walk across the Dordogne for all ages of children from 3 years and upwards, as well as adult courses for all abilities.

Other parks in the nearby area include Monkey's Forest (from 2 years of age) and the Big Bird park at Le Bugue (one of 4 attractions on the same site - see more)

Man-made rock climbing courses (Via Ferrata)

Located in the Gardens of Marqueyssac, the Via Ferrata offers unparalleled views of the river below. Set 100m above the river, you will venture along the cliff face in total security.

The Tour de France 2017 will pass directly by the Village in July and is spending 3 days (including a rest day) in the Dordogne area. Book early to avoid disappointment.

There are so many ways to enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Dordogne area and you will find

outdoor activities for all ages and abilities.

Kayak/Canoe

Kayaking down the river is a very popular activity in the summer months. The Dordogne is a 'class 1' river, meaning suitable for all and even a beginner can enjoy a trip down the river floating with the current and passing the many local castles along the route. You can hire a kayak or canoe at many places along the river, with the closest to the Gite being under 1km away.

Riverboat

At Beynac you can take a boat trip on the 'Gabarres', reproductions of the traditional 19th Century riverboats. With commentary available in English, you will pass the castles of Beynac, Feyrac, Castlenaud and Marqueyssac, as well as getting a close up view of the rich local wildlife along the river.

Walking / Hiking / Cycling

France has some of the best maintained walking, hiking and cycling routes in Europe, with access directly on the doorstep of the Gite. There are paths to suit all abilities commencing in the village and you will find a useful map of the local routes in the Gite.

Between 10-12 July 2017, the Dordogne is lucky enough to be hosting a leg of the Tour de France, including a rest day. The tour will pass by the Village, only a few hundred metres from the Gite. It will be an exciting few days with fun for all and a magnificent setting to see the Tour up close for cycling enthusiasts. Book Now!
